About Ellmau

Ellmau, situated between Salzburg and Innsbruck, is a picture perfect Tyrolean village set in a stunning location at the base of the Wilder Kaiser Mountains. It is one of the many villages that form the “Ski Welt Circuit”. This area was voted the “world’s best skiing area” in 2004/05 and in 2006/07 by the Ski Resort Services International.

Ellmau is home to Austria’s fastest and most modern funicular railway that links the local ski area with the extensive Ski Welt Circuit.

The terrain is well suited to all levels of skiers and the scenery is breathtaking from any vantage point. Beginners are superbly catered for with the gentle nursery slopes in the village centre. Intermediates are spoilt by the 250 kilometres of ski runs in the Ski Welt Circuit and the more advanced will find challenging runs both on and off piste.

Ellmau has a great selection of bars, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs offering varied and lively nightlife. If you would rather something more energizing at night, you can head up to a mountain hut for a drink and then toboggan home on the 4.5km long natural toboggan run. The toboggan run is flood-lit until 2am so there’s no hurry to get home.

And now for the statistics. The highest lift in the Wilder Kaiser Mountains is 1,956m. The longest vertical drop is 1,215m. There are 93 lifts for 128 slopes. A total of 250km of ski runs. Cross country trails go for 120km. Ski heaven!

If you want even more adventure, try snow biking, paragliding or ballooning, or just relax at one of the many bars after a full day of skiing.
